The general
aim of ESL education is to assist students from Language Backgrounds Other
Than English (LBOTE). The major task of an ESL program is to identify the
English skills necessary for effective functioning both in school and the
wider context of society. Assisting students whose English is their second
language will help them develop such skills to function successfully in
society.
ESL aims at
developing student’s skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in
English and to ensure that these skills are linked to all other key learning
areas (KLAs).
Georges
Hall Public School has 74% Language Background Other Than English (LBOTE)
student population and 38% needing English as a Second Language (ESL)
support.
