Students at Georges Hall learn Italian as part of their studies at Georges Hall Public School. The school has offered the program for a number of years and hopes to be able to continue the program for years to come.

The school has to meet part of the payment for Italian teachers.  The money collected goes to Co.As.It., the organisation which provides the Italian program.

Learning a second language provides a number of advantages, not only for the individual, but for society itself. Learning another language provides wider communication to extended family, community, international links and employment. It creates a greater tolerance and social harmony, greater problem solving and analytical skills, confidence and interpersonal skills. Students are able to transfer academic skills across two languages while collaboratively and cooperatively learning.

Italian holds a key position in the cultural and historical traditions of the Western World, both past and present. The influence of Italian culture is evident in music, fine arts, technology, design, opera, cinema, culinary arts, literature, philosophy, architecture, engineering, sciences, law and many other areas of human endeavour.
