From 2009, our school has moved from a Student Representative Council (SRC) to a School Parliament.  A School Parliament is a formal group of students elected by their peers to represent them and their views.  A School Parliament facilitates leadership and decision making be all students in the school.  It is an important way in which meaningful leadership opportunities are provided for students.

Our School Parliament consists of two members from each class in years 1 to 4 which are elected in class.  They attend monthly meetings an represent their class.  Year 5 and Year 6 elect one member in class and they represent their class in fortnightly meetings.  In addition, Year 5 nominate 4 members per class, who are all placed in a ballot and elections take place early in Term 1.  These 14 Year 5 students become the opposition in the Parliament.  Together with our Our school prefects and captains our Parliament is formed.

Ministers report to Parliament each fortnight and undertake specific tasks each week.  Years 1 to 4 report to the Parliament monthly.  All Parliament decisions and recommendations must have the approval of the Principal before they are implemented.  It is the responsibility of the Prime Minister together with the Minister involved to meet with the Principal to discuss Parliamentary decisions and recommendations.  Furthermore, the Ministers have to arrange to meet with any staff members responsible for their portfolio.

Parliamentary roles include:

  •  Prime Ministers (School Captains)

  •  Deputy Prime Ministers (Vice Captains)

  •  Speaker of the House

  •  Treasurer

  •  Leader of the Opposition

  •  Secretary/Clerk

  •  Minister for Communication

  •  Minister for Health, Safety & Canteen

  •  Minister for the Environment

  •  Minister for Sport

  •  Minister for Fundraising and Finance

Our members report back to their respective classes and discuss and matters that need to be considered.

We also support charities outside our school.  This year the School Parliament are supporting:

The Children's Hospital at Westmead

The SRC takes an active role in fundraising money for school projects, including supporting our own students in state and national level sporting endeavours.
